The 2019 concert programming at SUNY Orange opens on Sunday, January 27, 2 at 3 p.m. with the performance, The American String Quartet in Concert with Pianist Vadim Serebryany ~ selections by Ravel, Dvorak, and Tsontakis.

Works by this interesting mix of composers includes a quartet, a quintet, and solo piano pieces that demonstrate the versatility and virtuosity of the musicians.
This year also marks the 45th anniversary of the American String Quartet. Violinist Laurie Carney, who is the only original member, presently plays with violinist Peter Winograd, violist Daniel Avshalomov, and cellist Wolfram Koessel.

Described by GoMemphis.com as “performing with precision, eloquence and subtlety,” the American String Quartet [ASQ] has come to this Middletown stage several times as well as concert halls in Europe, Asia, South America, Canada, all of the 50 states, and in many venues in NYC where the quartet is based. Additionally, the four have played the complete Beethoven cycle of string quartets at the Cervantes Festival in Mexico and the Tel Aviv Museum in Israel. ASQ is the resident quartet at the Manhattan School of Music and the Aspen Music Festival.

Darmstädter Echo has hailed the group, stating, “From a combination of individual brilliance and ensemble perfection emerges one of the best quartets of our time.”

Vadim Serebryany is a recitalist, concerto soloist, and chamber musician. He has performed in Europe, North America, South America, Australia, and Japan. He received his DMA from Yale and teaches at Ithaca College. Serebryany has embarked on several challenging projects, including performing the complete Beethoven sonatas for piano and violin, as well as presenting various solo and chamber works in creative programs of the Second Viennese School composers (Schoenberg, Berg, and Webern).
