Carrie C. Carfora, 97, died Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Valley View Nursing Home. The daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Visconti) Tabasco, she was born in Newburgh on February 2, 1921.

Carrie attended Newburgh schools and was a lifelong parishioner of Sacred Heart Church. She met her husband Joe while working at Regal Bag before World War II, and after the war they married and settled down in Newburgh. Carrie was always a caregiver for her family including both her parents. After her children were grown and following the loss of her father and husband, Carrie began to work for the Department of Labor in Newburgh until the age of 90.

Carrie had been a resident of Valley View Nursing Home for the past four years, and her family would like to recognize the kindness, love and care that Carrie received every day as a resident while she was there.

Survivors include her beloved children: Carol (Ronald) Gamma and Joseph (Jeanne) Carfora; grandchildren: Jodi (James) O’Shaughnessy, Adelaide (Joseph) Burns, Monica (Lawrence) Hanke, Ronald (Stephanie) Gamma, Dr. Theresa (Jeffrey) Mastronardi, Dr. Joseph Carfora and Rachel Gamma; great-grandchildren: Drake, Jack, Daniel, Abigail, Rose, Salvatore, Maxwell, Graham, Josephine and Mila; sister-in-law, Rose Tabasco; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brothers: Thomas, Art, Joseph, Ambrose and Raymond Tabasco.

A funeral Mass will be held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23 at Sacred Heart Church, with burial following in Calvary Cemetery.
