City begins annual search for a Christmas tree

Posted

Greetings from River City.  Most happy birthday greetings to our dearest Chris who celebrates his candles and cake day on Nov. 21. Happy Birthday, dearest!

Due to the current State of Emergency issued in the City of Newburgh, and in order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, the following meeting changes are in effect. The City Council Work Sessions and Regular Meetings are closed to the public.

All meetings will be conducted through Zoom videoconference and will be livestreamed to the public via the City’s webpage as well as recorded.  Both the recording and a transcript will be made available at a later date.

Members of the public who wish to provide comments regarding the agenda and general matters of City business during the Nov. 23 Council meeting must register to join via Zoom in advance by 12 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 23.

With the holiday season quickly approaching, the City of Newburgh announces its annual search for a Christmas tree to display on Lower Broadway.  For over 30 years, Regina Angelo and the City of Newburgh Department of Public Works has sought out, cut down, transported, and decorated the Christmas Tree that is set up outside of City Hall.

The tree must be a Blue Spruce and 35 feet high.  Trees from past years have originated from within the City limits as well as from other Hudson Valley communities including New Windsor, Town of Newburgh and Marlboro.

Due to COVID-19 related public health concerns, the City of Newburgh will not host a live audience at the 2020 Christmas Tree Lighting.  A virtual ceremony will be held and livestreamed via the City’s social media outlets.

Everyone is encouraged to stay home and celebrate in warmth.  We ask the public to tag @CityofNewburgh on Facebook or @CityofNewburghnygov on Instagram depicting your anticipation of the lighting of the City of Newburgh Christmas Tree with the hashtag #NBNYvirtualtreelighting.

Interested parties who are aware of a potential tree are encouraged to contact Eliana Diaz, Executive Assistant to the City Manager, at (845) 569-7301 or ediaz@cityofnewburgh-ny.gov.

It’s farewell to the 2020 Newburgh Farmers Market when it ends on Saturday, Nov. 21, open from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Safe Harbors Green.  You can look forward to all the delicious produce from Common Ground Farm, Grandpa Farm, Huertas Farm and Newburgh Urban Farm and Food.   Due to the ongoing pandemic: we will be following social distancing guidelines, requiring masks, and the vendors will be handling their products exclusively. Be prepared to keep yourself and others safe while shopping at the market.

Safe Harbors of the Hudson is proud to present Black Renaissance Festival - A celebration and amplification of Black voices in our community through visual and performing arts.  On exhibition through Nov. 28, Saturdays and Sundays 1 – 4 p.m. at Safe Harbors Ann Street Gallery, 104 Ann St.

“The world is a battlefield of good and evil, truth and falsehood…each of us faces a choice.”   Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz.  “The first step in the destruction of evil is to name it…it doesn’t like that.”  James Rosebush.

As always, I close with my prayers for God’s blessings on your heads, my dears.
