City experiences increase in shots fired

Over the weekend the City of Newburgh experienced a drastic increase in Shots Fired Calls for Service. From Saturday (Jan. 9) to early Monday morning, the Police Department received seven Shots Fired incidents with a total of 28 shots being reported.

All of these incidents were recorded by the City’s Shot Spotter computer software and most were confirmed with shell casings located on scene. The shooting incidents focused mainly on the north-eastern section of the City. No citizens were struck by the gun fire, however, a vehicle and a residence were both struck in one of the incidents. Detectives are actively investigating several leads.
