The City of Newburgh will be temporarily transitioning its source of drinking water from the Catskill Aqueduct to Brown’s Pond on Nov. 8.
The process will take approximately two to three days for the existing drinking water in the City’s water mains and water storage tanks to be consumed and fully replaced with filtered water from Brown’s Pond. The City will remain on Brown’s Pond as a source of drinking water for an estimated 10 weeks to accommodate a planned shutdown of the Catskill Aqueduct so that NYC Department of Environmental Protection can conduct inspections and repairs on Aqueduct infrastructure.
