Eagle Scout honored by Newburgh Town Council

Eagle Scout Matthew Osborne of Boy Scout Troop 007 was honored by the Town of Newburgh Council at a recent work session. Osborne was honored for a recent project where he mapped out the area around Chadwick Lake.

Osborne’s map detailed trails and areas of interest in Chadwick Lake. As the son of Town Engineer James Osborne, to an extent Osborne’s map is a reflection of an interest in civil engineering going back to his father.

“Fantastic map,” said Councilman James Presutti to Osborne.

“Fabulous job, I mean the trail system. You putting that loop on there was fantastic. We’re going to duck tail off your loop with another trail in the near future. So, what you did actually made it easier for me to design another portion off of that. Your work was very well done, and I really appreciate it. It means a lot to me.”

After being honored, Osborne’s map was hung in the meeting room of the town hall. The map will stay indefinitely in the room.

“I might need a ladder,” joked Town Supervisor Gil Piaquadio before putting the map up with a taller Osborne. “But you can do it on your own.” The map was put up to laughter, cheers, and applause.

Chadwick Lake is one of the reservoirs supplying the Town of Newburgh’s water. It acts primarily as a backup water supplier to the town, while New York City’s Delaware Aqueduct acts as the primary reservoir. It is a man-made lake that was made in 1926 by the Chadwick family. It has been maintained for recreational purposes for the past 36 years.
