Happy Wednesday!

Congratulations to Pietro Geraci for his work with Students For Liberty. His hard work while attending Vassar College for Free Speech on college campus including organizing a lecture by Cornell University Professor William A. Jacobson on Hate, Speech & Free Speech on the college campus was protested and students wanted the event cancelled. Meeting with Vassar College President Elizabeth Bradley, he was able to present the reason for the event and President Bradley agreed.

His hard work and perseverance landed him an invite from President Trump at the East Room of the White House. Also, in attendance was Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos and Kellyanne Conway on March 21, 2019 to witness the signing of a law making it illegal for public colleges to restrict freedom of speech. Pietro informed me that colleges try to regulate when and where on campus a protest can be held, thus inhibiting freedom of speech. I was very surprised to hear this, I thought that frame of mind had ended with the 70’s. He continues to tell me that on two different college campus in the U.S., a student was arrested for distributing pocket constitutions and another student’s dorm room door was set fire because of his effects to have a speaker lecture regarding freedom of speech.

From the website, they state that Students For Liberty originally began in North America back in 2008. Despite growing into a vast international organization since then, our North American programs remain a key part of our efforts towards creating a freer and more prosperous society. Our passionate team of 123 Campus Coordinators work hard to organize their own Regional Conferences and activism events with the help of our leadership retreats and various grant programs.

He has graduated from Vassar College with an Astronomy and Earth Science and has found a new a passion in Political Activism and writer, coeditor of The Classy Libertarian and hobbies include clarinet, bass clarinet, singing, piano, composing, reading, kayaking, board games, and model railroading. Pietro is the son of Pietro (Pete) and Athena Geraci, who raised him knowing community involvement is important. How wonderful it is to speak with a young gentleman who is working to keep free speech on college campuses.
