Fall Festival is set for Saturday

Greetings from River City. As of moments ago--finally have heat, hot water, internet, television, and phone! Let us (me) hope it ALL lasts.
Regina Angelo, wanting to have as many vendors as possible, is still looking for vendors for our Oct. 19 festival at UNICO Park, from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Vendors can come on the day of the festival and pay on-site. For further information, they can call Regina Angelo at (845) 565-5429. The rain date is Oct 20. Vendor table is $35.

The Salvation Army is Now Recruiting Volunteers In Newburgh! Red kettles will be hitting the streets of Newburgh soon, sign-up for volunteer shifts now! Bell ringers are crucial partners in funding the good we do all year long.

Caitlin Zimicki-Bowditch, Executive Director of the Historical Society of Newburgh Bay and the Highlands, announced an upcoming lecture, “Challenge of Climate Change in the Hudson Valley” on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. at the organization’s annual meeting at its headquarters, the old Captain David Crawford House, 189 Montgomery St.
Experts from the Hudson River Maritime Museum in Kingston will be the featured speakers.
Historian Russell Lange, chemist Larry Nummy, and educator Meg Clark will explain the exhibit they have just created at their Kingston museum in conjunction with several other scientific institutions. Their presentation will illustrate the climate changes of the last century and what is predicted for the next decades in this valley.
Before the talk, Historical Society members will conduct an annual meeting, with brief reports on the past year’s activities and the election of officers for the coming year. Members and visitors are invited to tour the house and share refreshments afterwards.
The talk is free to members of the Historical Society and the public is welcome to attend for a $5 donation.

Thanks, neighbors-- Members of the Kiwanis Club of Newburgh manned the grill to prepare food for the Habitat for Humanity’s 20th Anniversary and dedication party held at the Newburgh Unity Center on Oct. 5.
In addition, several members of the Kiwanis of Newburgh club partnered with Brother’s BBQ to help cook and feed local children at the Boys & Girls Club annual Community Day event held on Sept. 21. A fun time was had by all.
Newburgh Scholarship Golf Tournament held on Sept. 30 was a beautiful day for golfing with friends and raising funds for the Kiwanis of Newburgh Scholarship Fund! A huge thank you to all of the golfers, sponsors and volunteers that made this year’s outing a tremendous success at the Storm King Golf Course in Cornwall.

Have you ever wondered what a conductor does? Most people have seen a conductor waving wildly at the orchestra while they do all the hard work of making the sound. Can’t musicians just count? The Maestro Mystique at the Safe Harbors Lobby at the Ritz Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. presents this multi-media presentation with Russell Ger - Music Director of the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra.

In this program, Ger delves into the fascinating world of conducting and its surprising array of skills and techniques. Discover a whole new world and answer the old question: What Does a Conductor Do? Tickets: $20/advance online until noon on the day of the event, and $25/at the door. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Karen Eberle-McCarthy, Vice President of Latinos Unidos, announced their celebration of Hispanic Awareness with a Fundraiser Gala on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. at Anthony’s Pier 9 in New Windsor.

From Saint Francis of Assisi: Welcome Deacon John--Effective Oct. 1, Deacon John Hanley joined the staff of The Parish of Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Together with Fr. Bill, Fr., Peter and the staff, you can be sure that the parishioners will extend a warm parish welcome to Deacon John as he celebrates masses.

Deacon Jack Seymour Food Pantry has begun its annual raffle. This is their only fundraiser. Tickets are available at the rectory and from pantry volunteers. The Drawing will be held on Oct. 26. Please support this worthy cause.
St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta Parish Youth Ministry News: The parish Youth Ministry meets in the school (at Sacred Heart), using the Ann Street entrance. Grades 6 - 8: Edge will meet the first and third Friday of each month from 6 - 8 p.m.; Grades 9 - 12: Life teen will meet the second and fourth Friday of each month from 6 - 8 p.m.

Mary’s Hope - Their next Food Drive, at Sacred Heart Church, for delivery to their homebound clients, will be on Sunday, Oct. 27. Items most needed are Baked Beans, Red & Black Beans, Boxed Potatoes, Gravy, Pancake Flour Complete, 1 lb. packages Rice, any canned Fruit and Vegetables, and Tuna or Chicken in a can.
Pot Luck! On Sunday, Nov. 3, in Gallo Hall (at Sacred Heart) from 1 p.m. - until whenever. There will be Door Prizes, 50/50 Drawing, Hot & Cold Dishes, and entertainment by Phase Five Oldies. Admission is $10/person, $20/family (4 max) and children under age 12/free.

Altar Service Appreciation Day: The Knights of Columbus will host this appreciation day for altar servers and their families on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. in O’Connor Hall. All altar servers attending are asked to sign the sheet in the St. Francis sacristy indicating the number of people in the family that will attend.
The Knights of Columbus will hold their annual rededication of the monument to the Unborn on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 3 p.m. at the entrance to the Calvary Cemetery. This is a Pro-Life event. All are encouraged to attend.
