Knight of Columbus Domingo Ampil enjoyed a serendipitous moment when he and Knight Greg Gaetano were selling raffles and recruiting new Knights to join their Msgr. Henry O’Carroll Council, October 6, at Tarsio Lanes.  Ampil was happy to bump into two great friends.  Everyone knows Deputy Supervisor Scott Manley, a true friend to all, and with Manley was Councilman Anthony LoBiondo, whom we all wish for his friendship and leadership in the Town of Newburgh.

The power of sneakers will prevail again this year as New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) venture out to take part in novel fundraising events for the American Cancer Society’s annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign. The pandemic won’t stop the power of pink, and although COVID-19 prevents the normal walking in solidarity with cancer survivors, supporters, and family members this year, the American Cancer Society offers several ideas for supporting cancer research and raising much-needed funds, in safe and fun ways.
The key to keeping the pink-powered program thriving is to sign up at nysut.org/MakingStrides to stay informed about what is being planned in each region, and for updates this fall.  Men participating in the campaign pledge to wear pink throughout the month of October that helps give men a leadership role, in the fight against breast cancer, which affects men as well.

Meadow Hill School has announced Newburgh Enlarged City School District (NECSD) Virtual Pink Day is scheduled for Friday, October 16.  This is a throw back to the NECSD Pink Out event last year!  For the last several years, NECSD has recognized Pink Day to honor those who have lost their battle with cancer.  They are asking that their NECSD community wear pink or any color that represents a tribute to fighting cancer.  Photos can be shared with Communications@necsd.net.
Pink Day was established by Ms. Jonelle Formato-Santo, a teacher at NFA Main Campus. Formato-Santo stated, “Pink Day was established at Heritage about 10 years ago in support of a colleague that was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.  During her fight, we would all wear pink.  When I moved to SMS, I continued the tradition of Pink Day along with Heritage, as a way to honor our colleague who ended up losing her battle with cancer.  Since coming to NFA, I have made it a district event knowing that many of our faculty, staff, and students have been affected by, not only Breast Cancer, but ALL Cancers.”

May you always have an angel at your side.
