Gertrude E. Schroeder (Stabb) of Palm Harbor Fla died peacefully at her home surrounded by family, she was 100.5 years young. Born in Hirshflur, East Prussia, she came to the US in 1950. She was an excellent seamstress and worked in the garment industry when first in this country.

Gertrude is pre-deceased by her husband Paul Schroeder. She is survived by her children Lori Damaschke of Palm Harbor, Fla and Columbia, KY and Robert Schroeder and his wife Linda of Newburgh, NY. She had 6 grandchildren and many great-grands.

In her later years she spent hours “knit, knit, knitting” as she was fond of saying, and many of her handmade blankets will be donated to Empath Hospice. She was quick to tell a joke, had an amazing will to live, and was feisty to the end. She shared many stories of growing up on a farm in Germany with her family, as well as some great recipes.

One of her favorite sayings was “Prepare for the worst, hope for the best”.

She will be deeply missed.
