Goldback girls seeking first lacrosse win of the season

Newburgh’s girls’ lacrosse team was still looking for its first victory Thursday at home against Kingston, a perennial sectional powerhouse.

The rout started early and the Tigers scored eight goals in under seven minutes and went home with a 22-1 victory.

Keely Hofving, one of three seniors on a young team, scored Newburgh’s only goal of the afternoon.

“Some games our offense looks good, sometimes not so much,” said Matt Abate, Newburgh’s coach.

Playing Kingston is a matter of surviving without getting too discouraged. In an earlier loss to Middletown, Newburgh scored five goals, the most scored in one game this season.

“We had some moments there where it did click. We need to build off that,” said Abate. “We have a lot of season to play.”
