Goldbacks fall to Wallkill

Newburgh’s boys’ lacrosse team led 2-1 after the first quarter at Wallkill Monday, April 8.

The Panthers came back in the second quarter leading 7-4 at the half. The Panthers kept the lead before winning 14-7.

Terry Anderson led Newburgh with three goals, and Dylan Lasota added a pair for the Goldbacks. Jovan Rogers and Pat Searing each scored a goal for the Goldbacks.

“The kids are coming a long way. They are getting better every game,” said Jimmy Horton, Newburgh’s coach.

Horton said his team is getting better at setting up in transition to counter its opponents, even though they could do little to slow Wallkill’s attack at times.

“For the most part we played very well today. We just made some mistakes they capitalized on,” said Horton. “When teams do that, they will put the ball in the net.”

Alex Lewis led Wallkill with six goals. Ty Crowley and Chad Castle each had three goals, and Austin Palen and Alec MacDonald each had a goal for the Panthers.

“We moved the ball quick, we played hard,” said Lewis. “We were aggressive, and overall, we did very well.”
