Green remains out at town hall

Posted

A raucous crowd of New Windsor residents packed town hall Wednesday night, eager to find out whether there is an ongoing grand jury probe of New Windsor officials.

Rumors about such a probe have been rampant for weeks.

The unsubstantiated probe was debunked by councilman Andrew Regenbaum who is a New Windsor based attorney. He said after the meeting that there was a grand jury concerning the airport some years back but nothing like that was happening now.

“There is no grand jury investigation,” he said outside the town hall.

Meanwhile Town attorney Michael Blythe said in an August public meeting that “The town cannot comment whether there are or are not any investigations that might require the testimony of a town employee.”

Resident Syvia Santiago wanted to know if the town would pay an outside attorney for any employee or public official subpoenaed by a federal grand jury.

Meanwhile New Windsor supervisor George Green remains sidelined with an undisclosed illness that has sent him to St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh and then to the Helen Hayes rehabilitation hospital. Town officials did not have an estimate of when Green would return to work.

The supervisor has missed three town board meetings.
