Harmony For Habitat VII concert scheduled

At 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 4, Grace United Methodist Church on Broadway in Newburgh will again host members of several area church choirs in a seventh benefit concert for Habitat for Humanity. The concerts, called “Harmony for Habitat”, are held every two years and began in 2006.

The churches involved are mostly United Methodist and the proceeds will go towards the 6th “Methodist and Friends Build” Habitat house in what will be part of an initiative in the City of Newburgh called “Faith Row”. Four houses have been built (from the ground up) each sponsored by a different denomination: United Methodist, Episcopalian, Presbyterian and an Ecumenical House. Briana Soss, chairperson of the “Methodist and Friends Build” Committee, reminds people that these churches not only support the effort financially, they provide volunteers who work on site.

Elissa Zahn, Minister of Music at Grace and concert founder and organizer, states that the program will include a variety of music sung by a mass choir, as well as soloists and the audience. Conductors for the mass choir include Ken Pick, of Vails Gate United Methodist Church and Bruce Winslow, of Monroe. Soloists include Amber Neilson and Carolyn Topliff of the Town of Newburgh and Andrew Stahl of Cornwall.

Grace United Methodist Church is located at 468 Broadway in Newburgh. The concert will take place in the sanctuary. A free will donation will be received at the door. If someone is unable to attend but would like to make a donation, a check can be made out to “Habitat for Humanity” and in the memo section, “Methodist and Friends Build”.

Donations may be sent to Grace United Methodist Church at PO Box 2556, Newburgh, NY 12550 (att. Elissa Zahn). A reception will follow the concert in the church Community Room.

Parking is available on Broadway and behind the church building on Van Ness Street. Handicap accessibility is available from the parking lots on Van Ness. A chairlift provides handicap accessibility inside the church.
