Harvey, Grice and Sklarz kick off campaign

Mayor Torrance Harvey, Councilman Anthony Grice and Councilman Bob Sklarz made a joint announcement on February 25 outside City Hall, that they will be running for office. Harvey and Grice will seek re-election to their current positions, while Sklarz will run for the first time in for the city council seat for Ward 3.

A small crowd withstood the wind and freezing temperatures to listen to the three share their priorities for the city.

For Grice his top priorities include, protecting the drinking water and watershed, transportation, and housing. He looks to continue the work he has done so far in those three areas as a council member for the City of Newburgh. Grice revitalized the Transportation Advisory Committee to tackle the issue of transportation in Newburgh. Grice received the endorsement of the New York Working Families Party.

Sklarz is also looking to take on the issue of water and to hold those responsible for water contamination in the City of Newburgh to account, his second priority is to improve the infrastructure of the city, starting with street paving, and his third priority is to find new ways to raise revenue.

Harvey looks to keep consistency and unity in the city council with his re-election. Harvey crafted a 10 point plan for the city of Newburgh through research and data analysis to find the best ways to revitalize the city. He looks to focus on crime reduction, job creation, transportation reform, creating a walkable city, code enforcement, infrastructure improvement, affordable housing, business and economic development, and creating a green clean city, youth recreation and development, helping hands for the homeless, and creating a technology hub.

All three candidates are endorsed through the City of Newburgh Democratic Committee.
