Homicide reported in Newburgh shooting

Early-morning shootings in the City of Newburgh have left one person dead and two others wounded.

On Saturday, June 8, the City of Newburgh police department received a shot spotter notification for 128 S. Robinson Ave. Upon arrival officers located a large crowd fighting in the parking lot near the Dunkin Donuts.

    While handling the fight the police department received a shot spotter notification for 140 S. Clark Street. In the area of Bridge Street and Carson Avenue officers located a male who had a gunshot wound.

    While on both scenes the police department received a call for two males that had arrived at St. Luke’s hospital with gunshot wounds. It was learned that the two males had been shot at 128 S. Robinson Ave and left that area prior to police arrival.

 Police have identified City of Newburgh residents Anthony Burden, age 28 and Dejon Jones, age 28 as the individuals who sustained gunshot wounds in the area of 128 S. Robinson Avenue. 

   The male found in the area of Bridge Street and Carson Avenue was transported to St. Luke’s Cornwall hospital where he was later pronounced dead. He was later identified as City of Newburgh resident Cherod Gayle, age 20. 

    These incidents are currently being investigated by the City of Newburgh Police Department, New York State Police Major Crimes, and the Orange County District Attorney’s office.
