Hudson Valley Building Trades to host Danskammer webinar

The Hudson Valley Building and Construction Trades Council will host an informational webinar on Wednesday, June 24, at 5:30 p.m. During the webinar, community stakeholders, union members and energy experts will discuss the economic and environmental benefits of the project for the region.

“Danskammer Energy has been part of our community for decades - powering our homes and business and supporting jobs right here in the Hudson Valley,” said Todd Diorio, President of the Hudson Valley Building and Construction Trades Council and Business Manager of Laborers’ Local 17. “The modernization project will be a further investment in our community and our local workforce. Danskammer has already committed to using local labor for this project, which will support hundreds of good-paying union jobs in our own backyard all while reducing air pollution across the Northeast.”

The Hudson Valley Building and Construction Trades is working with supporters through a campaign effort called Power Hudson Valley. This campaign allows the community to read about the benefits of the Danskammer upgrade and communicate that to their local officials.

For almost 70 years, the Hudson Valley has been powered by the Danskammer Generating Station. Now, Danskammer Energy, LLC, is seeking approval from the State to replace its decades-old equipment with the state-of-the-art technology to produce cleaner and more efficient energy to help New York meet its energy goals. The project will support more than 450 local union jobs over a two- and half-year construction period and contribute more than $50 million to local governments and schools over the next 20 years.

“Making sure people understand what is actually being proposed for the Danskammer site is important. I thank Todd and his members along with other prominent figures in Newburgh and the Hudson Valley for hosting this event to educate our community about the benefits of the Danskammer modernization project,” said Bill Reid, CEO and President of Danskammer Energy, LLC. ‘’This project is important for our community and will support our local governments and schools and create hundreds of jobs. I look forward to participating in the discussion and answering any questions about the project and the Article 10 process.”

The webinar will be streamed live on YouTube and is open to the public. Please register at eventbrite.com/e/109203927888 to receive a link to the livestream an hour and a half before the event.
