After seeing Governor Cuomo on the morning news talking about the “ Domestic Terrorism at the Hanukkah Celebration in Rockland County, it dawned on me that if not for the Governor’s New York State SAFE Act the deranged perpetrator of the attack could have easily been armed with an assault weapon, purchased at any number of retail establishments in the state.

Although, I’m sickened by the brutal hate attack at a religious celebration, I’m very glad that New York State has a government that’s truly concerned about keeping the residents of the state safe from gun violence.

It is unfortunate that so many states are controlled by governments that don’t believe in sensible gun laws, and there is a way for criminals to get around good gun laws by going to another state, and buying a weapon that is outlawed in the state where they live. The only real hope for sensible gun law is a federal government that cares about public safety. Every resident of the nation should be kept safe by background checks before any firearm can be purchased, complete bans on the sale of military weapons to the general public and police background checks reviewed by a judge for a pistol permit.

Deranged perpetrators of brutal hate crimes shouldn’t be abetted by deranged gun laws.
