Junior Naturalists at Minnewaska: Insect Searching Adventure

Posted by sarah

Let’s discover the wonderful world of insects together. To start off this program, we will have a short discussion about the fascinating body parts and characteristics of insects. Next, we will learn how to use sweep nets to search for crawling and flying insects in a field habitat and practice using these tools to see what we can find. Afterwards, we will head down to the Peter’s Kill stream to search for aquatic insects, using a dip net.

During this program, we will plan to hike approximately a half-mile on the Red Loop Footpath. This footpath has some continuous hills and uneven surfaces, that some might find challenging. This program is recommended for children between the ages of seven to twelve years old, accompanied by a parent or legal guardian over the age of 18. Well behaved younger siblings are always welcome. Meet at the Peter’s Kill

Area.
