Kids sing to the joy of summer

There is something so sweet and joyous about the month of June that we wish it would stay forever. Boys and girls in Miss Liz’s class at Tots-N-Us Nursery School are tickled pink that June, their favorite month of summer has finally arrived, and yes, they’ve been dreaming of this magical moment since the cold, blustery days of January.

Now they are anticipating the joys of long and sunny days at camp, playing favorite sports, riding the trails on bikes or trikes with mom or dad, enjoying the pool or beaches and delicious barbecues, being amazed at the precious fireflies dancing on balmy evenings, making S’mores and enjoying them on the Summer Solstice and camping out in a tent in the backyard.

Summer promises so many gifts, such as the fabulous Renegade ball games across the river, the fantastic firework displays, eating lots and lots of ice cream and don’t forget, it’s the strawberry season. It’s time to celebrate our flag, Old Glory, and June is for all our great dads, and we celebrate them with lots of love and thank them for all their unconditional love. Most of all, the children don’t forget that it’s also fun and creative to visit our local libraries for the newest books and programs. Summer is short, but it makes the most wonderful memories of the year.

Boy Scouts of America, Hudson Valley Council, was proud to present the Silver Beaver Award to the following individuals at its recent Annual Volunteer Recognition dinner held at Cronomer Valley Fire Department Hall. Congratulations to Jessica Brighton, Deacon Peter Haight, Sharon Masciovecchio, and William VanPelt, for Noteworthy Service of Exceptional Character to Youth, upon the recommendation of the local council. The Silver Beaver is given to those who do not actively seek it.

Recipients of this award are registered adult leaders who have made an impact on the lives of youth through service given to the council. The Silver Beaver is an award given to those who implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self-sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service.

Hudson Valley Council extends a gracious Thank You to all the families, volunteers, and participants that are involved in making Scouting possible in the council, which is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. This organization would not exist if it were not for the support of our communities and families. The lives of our children are the beneficiaries of your commitment, and your dedication is what makes scouting successful.

The four recipients exemplify the virtues of service, leadership, guidance, patience, dedication, encouragement, loyalty, respect, and duty to God, using their training and experience in all walks of their diversified lives, to build better and safer communities, and a loving and peaceful world.

Scouters and friends cheerfully describe the Silver Beaver recipients in a word or two as follows; Jessica Brighton: “Let the Sun Shine!” Deacon Peter Haight: “Duty to God!” Sharon Masciovecchio: “The Humble Do Not Seek Success or Recognition!” William VanPelt: “Where Can I Help?” Congratulations to all, and God bless your “sunny enthusiasm!”

Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 180 South St. in Newburgh, invite you to a Pentecost Vigil: “When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind…” ACTS 2: 1-2.
