Last chance: Mount’s virtual ‘Screenagers’ Conference ends Nov. 30

Posted

There’s still time to register for “Screenagers,” Mount Saint Mary College’s 11th annual Center on Adolescent Research and Development (CARD) conference, which is being held virtually through November 30.

This event is open to educators, social service personnel, parents, students, and the general public. The cost for both videos is $25 per participant. To register, visit msmc.edu/CARD2020.

Participants will watch the “Screenagers” series of films, which focus on adolescent technology use and the problems that may accompany it. Commentary by noted psychologists follow each video. Participants can view both parts – “Screenagers 1: Adolescent Screen Addiction” and “Screenagers 2: Screen Addiction and Depression” through the end of November.

Three CTLE credits will be available for those who view both videos. For more information, contact card@msmc.edu.

According to physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston, the average adolescent spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens. She wondered about the impact of this and the friction occurring in homes and schools around negotiating screen time.
In “Screenagers,” Delaney takes a deeply personal approach to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics, and internet addiction. Via insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, the “Screenagers” series reveals how tech time impacts children’s development and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance.
