Marianne Maffeo passed on April 20, 2020, after a long battle with cancer at the Rosary Hill Nursing Home, Hawthorne, NY. Marianne has been a resident of the area for 40 years.
Marianne was born on April 17, 1943 in Hamburg, Germany to Karl and Freida Griebel and immigrated to the United States at age 13 in 1956, with her family. She finished her education in the schools of New York.
She was the widow of Fudie Maffeo whom she married on November 22, 1963. Mr. Maffeo passed on April 17, 1990.
Marianne worked as a waitress at various restaurants when she lived in Queens, NY. She worked at the Quick Deli and then owned the Classic Deli in Montgomery for many years until her retirement.
Survivors are one son, Almonte Maffeo at home; her sisters Ingrid Wolff and Gisela Shofkom, many nieces and nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband and her sister Brigitte Cannon.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday at the Wallkill Valley Cemetery in Walden, NY.
Donations in Marianne's memory may be made to Rosary Hill Nursing Home, 600 Linda Avenue, Hawthorne, NY 10532. The Sisters of Hawthorne were wonderful to Marianne during the time that she was there. She was even teaching some of the sisters to speak German. Many thanks to them for being so caring.
