The boys’ golf teams from Pine Bush and NFA played back-to-back matches last week, and the Bushmen won both after beating NFA during the second match in the Town of Wallkill 236-273 Wednesday, May 8.

Mark Yan led Newburgh with a 47, and Sam Ouhaj was second with a 51. Mike Cahill shot a 52 for Newburgh and Adam Swink shot a 59. Kevin Novella was fifth for Newburgh with a 65.

Newburgh dropped to 4-10 overall, 2-6.

“I thought we would be closer to .500,” said Jim Nee, Newburgh’s coach. “I just think the league is better than I thought it was going to be.”

Aedan Shannon led Pine Bush with a 43, and Seth DeWitt was second with a 45. Anthony Bressler shot a 48, and Chris Gibson shot a 49. Colin Thorn was fifth for Pine Bush with a 51.

Pine Bush’s second victory in a day followed their first meeting the day before at Newburgh’s Powelton Club, where the Bushmen eked out a 10-point victory, 224-234.

‘This is pretty much what we expected,” said Eric Moller, Pine Bush’s coach. “We are very pleased with our young golfers who are maturing. And our older boys are playing pretty well.”

Moller said Shannon has played well as the Bushmen improved 8-5-1 overall, and 6-3 in the league.
