Meyers to take office on January 1

George Meyers will officially be sworn in as Town of New Windsor Supervisor on Wednesday at 1 p.m. The inauguration will be held in the Town Hall.

Meyers will be replacing Supervisor George Green. Meyers beat Green this past November. Green has not been physically in office for over six months now. Councilwoman Patricia Mullarkey has been acting as the Deputy Supervisor in his place. Green’s absence is one of many issues that have brought Meyers to run.

Previously, Meyers had been town supervisor for 12 years before being defeated by Green in 2005. This inauguration will mark the return of Meyers to politics.

Initially after being defeated in 2005, Meyers had no intention of returning to politics. His return is an effort to fix flaws in the Town of New Windsor Council. In an earlier article done by the Mid-Hudson Times, Meyers said that he hopes to increase citizen involvement. “People feel shut out from local government whereas I’m going to open things up with more access to town government,” said Meyers.
