Former New Windsor town supervisor George Meyers beat incumbent supervisor George Green in last Tuesday’s Republican party primary voting, 573 to 469 out of 984 votes cast. There were two write- in votes.

Meyers also has the endorsement of the New Windsor town Democratic party.

Green beat Meyers for the job in 1994.

Now Green will run against Meyers on the Conservative and Independence party lines in November’s general election for the budgeted $130,000 a year town supervisor position.

Meyers says he’ll return town government to public accessibility and accountability.

He said he’s running for just one term to get New Windsor back on course.

He said “I just want to put a stop to what’s been going on in this town,” says Meyers. He points to over-development and runaway costs.

Meyers was New Windsor Supervisor for 12 years. He says he “always met with people who came to see me when I was supervisor even if you had to wait. I didn’t go home without seeing everyone who came to see me.”
Meyers also promised more give and take between his office and the public.

Supervisor George Green who is also managing the shutdown of the town’s new water treatment plant from polluting PFOs could not be reached this week.

Green has celebrated the town’s growth as measured but Meyers terms it run-away over development.

Backing Green retired state senator William. J. Larkin Jr. says Green has kept taxes down down and spending in check, while Meyers calls it “out of control.”

Meyers is also head of security at the Cornwall-on-Hudson based Storm King school.

One of Meyers sons is a New Windsor town justice and another is a state police officer.

George Meyers is a retired U.S. Navy radio operator.
