In response to a spike in COVID-19 cases in Orange County, and the confirmation of six new cases on campus within the last two weeks, Mount Saint Mary College is shifting to online classes for two weeks beginning at 8 p.m. tonight. Residence halls will remain open. 

'The Mount community has done an excellent job being proactive in combating the spread of COVID-19, and the number of cases here is far below the New York state threshold of 100 that would force a mandatory move online.," said Mount Spokesman Matt Frey. "The decision to pause on-campus classes has been made out of an abundance of caution to protect the Mount community and prevent the spread of the virus. "

Contact tracing is being carried out for the most recently-confirmed COVID-19 cases and anyone affected will be contacted directly. 

Highlights

All classes will move to online/virtual format from 8 p.m. on Friday, October 9 until they resume (if all criteria are met) on Monday, October 26.

Residence halls will remain open with mobile ordering available for pickup. There will be no dining in either The View or Henry’s. Outdoor spaces are available.  

Students who live on campus are strongly encouraged to stay on campus, as recommended by the Orange County Department of Health. Students who live off campus will not be allowed back until Monday, October 26.

Resident students who are off campus by 8 p.m. on Friday, October 9 will need to remain off campus for these two weeks.

On-campus activities and team practices are suspended.

Non-essential employees will shift to remote work during this period.

There will be an increase in COVID-19 testing during this period
