On May 13 the U.S. Postal Service intercepted a suspicious package addressed to a property in the City of Newburgh. The City of Newburgh Police Department was notified and watched Randy Montero, 31, of the Town of New Windsor picking up the package and enter a vehicle.

Montero was driven by Melvin Santana-Ramirez, 33, also from New Winsor. The two were detained and brought to the City of Newburgh Police Department. Officers found 531 grams of cocaine in the package.
Montero was charged with 1st and 3rd-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Santana-Ramirez was charged with 3rd-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, for driving with a suspended license.

According to Sgt Christopher Lahar the department was assisted by the Orange County Sherriff’s Office, the United States Postal Service, Drug Enforcement Administration, and the FBI led Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force.
