New Windsor Supervisor on the mend

New Windsor Town Supervisor George Green’s whereabouts have raised questions for many. Green has been absent from town hall due to health problems for the past few months.

In his absence, Patricia Mullarkey was appointed Deputy Supervisor and James McGee was appointed Chief of Staff and Assistant to the Supervisor.

According to New Windsor Town Clerk Deborah Green, wife of Green, the supervisor entered the hospital on August 9 for double pneumonia. In September, Green went to Helen Hayes Hospital for physical therapy. On September 28, Green was released to outpatient physical therapy from home.

Despite health issues, Deborah Green says that Green has maintained daily contact numerous times a day with his staff. But questions still have been raised over the amount of pay Green, Mullarkey, and McGee receive.

On September 19, a letter to the editor was submitted to The Mid-Hudson Times. The letter alleged that Green still receives the same annual pay despite his physical absence. Green has a gross annual pay of $103,516.22. With taxes and deductions, Green has an annual pay of $68,726.15. The letter raised concerns over taxpayers paying for a Supervisor, Deputy Supervisor, and Chief of Staff and Assistant to the Supervisor.

When asked about these concerns, Deborah Green declined to comment. Concerns were also mentioned over McGee’s residency. McGee is currently a Cornwall resident and a candidate for the Cornwall Town Board. “There is no residency requirement for anything other than elected officials and deputies,” said Deborah Green. Because McGee is not in an elected or deputy role, Deborah Green believes there’s no need to be concerned.

Note:

Green recently spoke to The Mid-Hudson Times. Green said over the phone, "I'm doing good." He also confirmed that he's been in daily correspondance with his staff. In addition, Green hopes to be back in townhall by the end of this year.
