New Windsor twins earn degrees from the Mount

The families of more than 600 graduates might have felt a tad of déjà vu when Alyssa and Chrysta Kotash of New Windsor. received their degrees at Mount Saint Mary College’s 56th Annual Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 18.

That’s because the Kotash twins are just two of more than a dozen sets of twins and triplets who studied at the Mount in the 2018-2019 school year.

Alyssa and Chrysta Kotash had originally planned on going to separate colleges. However, they both opted to study at the Mount after discovering the college’s strong academic programs and breathtaking views. The sisters wound up rooming together for all four years, being named to the college’s Dean’s List together, and even enrolling in the same major: Nursing.

Now, as they prepare to graduate, they celebrate heading into the work world together as well: After both sisters completed an internship with the organization, they landed a jobs as registered nurses at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco, N.Y. They will also be enrolled together in the same graduate program.

With jobs secured, said Alyssa, “Now we can focus on passing the NCLEX [the National Council Licensure Examination].” Their chances are looking bright: Mount Nursing students consistently score higher

than the state average on the NCLEX-RN test.
With so many parallels between the twins, it’s unsurprising that sometimes people confuse them for one another.

“Some of my uncles can’t even tell us apart,” said Alyssa. Chrysta added, “My grandma still doesn’t know which is which.”
