Newburgh Counts premiers ‘Counted’ music video

In a break from the tension, Newburgh Counts premiered the official music video for “Counted” by Revival Town at Monday’s Newburgh City Council meeting.

Ray Harvey, President of Newburgh’s NAACP, first updated the council with Census work progress. Then, Pastor Mike Flowerz of Revival Town introduced the video.

The video featured various members of the community like city officials, the city’s youth, and more. The video ended with close ups of community members.

“For me and some of us on the council that were present,” said Mayor Torrance Harvey, “it was a really really wonderful experience. It is a powerful message. You know, we really wanna get a push for Census 2020. We want to get everyone counted.”

Harvey emphasized that the Census report also determines how many representatives go into the U.S. House of Representatives for a district. He said that the Census also ties into the Presidential election, and how they calculate the electors in the electoral college system.

Councilman Omari Shakur said that he will be playing the song at his town halls in March. “We will be pushing the census,” said Shakur.
“People don’t realize, unless you get the word out, how important the Census is,” said Councilwoman Patty Sofokles. “It’s how we get federal aid to this city. Everybody has to get counted.”

The song can be streamed on platforms like Youtube, Spotify, I Heart Radio, and Apple Music. The track can be purchased at revivaltownmuzic.bandcamp.com/.
