Newburgh propositions pass

Posted 5/21/19

The Newburgh Enlarged City School district took to the polls Tuesday to vote on five different propositions and to pick three Board of Education positions.

The Board of Education positions will be filled by Carol L. Maida, Susan Prokosch, and Shane Henderson, and all five of the propositions put up for a vote were passed.

The five propositions passed included the NECSD budget, the Newburgh Free Library Budget, a continuation of the extension on the transportation of students up to 18 miles outside the district, and the passage of the Capital Bond improvements.

The passages of the capital bond improvements means that the district will have building repairs, a new CTE building and updates to the HVAC systems in all buildings.

The School Board of Education positions will official be filled in June. Carol Maida and Shane Henderson will take seats to be vacated by Mark Levinstein and Andrew Johnston.

The race for the three seats on the BOE was close with Maida earning 1400 votes, Prokosch with 1263 votes, and Henderson with 1167 votes. Henderson beat out incumbent Levinstein by a slim margin of 66 votes.
