Newburgh’s boys’ swimming team ended its regular dual meet season on the road against Monroe-Woodbury Thursday, and the Crusaders downed the Goldbacks 100-78.
The Goldbacks ended the regular season with a 5-3 overall record and now get ready for the postseason, which begins with diving competition in Cornwall, Jan. 31 during the OCIAA championships.
Aleksey Makarov won the 50-freestyle against Crusaders, and the senior was second in the 100-butterfly. Kyle German won the 100-backstroke, and Devin Triller and Luka Samsonov went 1-2 in the 100-breaststroke. The Goldbacks won the 200 and 400-freestyle relays against the Crusaders.
As the Goldbacks get ready for the postseason, Makarov is the top ranked in the 100-breaststroke, 2nd in the 200-individual medley in the section, 3rd in the 100-butterfly, 5th in the 50-freestyle, 6th in the 200-freestyle, and 6th in the 100-backstroke. Samonov, a freshman, is ranked 3rd in the 500-freestyle.
The swimming competition for the OCIAA championships will be conducted Feb. 2 in Washingtonville. Two weeks later, Feb. 14-16, the Section 9 championships will be conducted in Montgomery at Valley Central.
