Police investigate multiple shooting/stabbing incidents

City of Newburgh Police reported multiple shooting and stabbing incidents over the past week.

On December 27 at approximately 6:31 p.m. The City of Newburgh Police Department responded to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital for a report of stabbing victim. The victim was seemingly intoxicated and was able to tell investigators where the incident occurred. His wounds are not believed to be life-threatening. This incident is currently being investigated by City of Newburgh Detectives.

On December 27 at 6:54 p.m. police responded to a Shot Spotter Activation that showed 8 gunshots in the area of 103 William Street. While responding to that area a separate Shot Spotter Activation came in. This one was in the area of 112 Williams that indicated 3 gunshots. Officers responded to the area of the notifications and were able to locate one victim with a gunshot wound to his leg.

The victim was uncooperative on scene and transported to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital for treatment. This incident is being investigated by The Non-Fatal Shooting Taskforce.

On December 28 at approximately 6:34 p.m. City of Newburgh Police Officers responded to the area of 76 Courtney Avenue for a Shot Spotter Activation. Officers on scene were able to locate shell casings but were unable to locate any victims. A canvass for witnesses who were cooperative was unsuccessful. This incident is being investigated by City of Newburgh Detectives.

On December 29 at approximately 10:09 p.m. City of Newburgh Police Officers responded to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital for a report of male who had been stabbed. The male victim was initially uncooperative and then was rushed into surgery due to receiving several stab wounds to his abdomen. He has since come out of surgery and is in stable condition. This incident is being investigated by City of Newburgh Detectives.

During the shooting incident on December 27 the Orange County Sheriff’s Office assisted City of Newburgh Police with the preliminary investigation as well with trying to control several active crime scenes.
