Presutti is new parks commissioner

Former Newburgh Town Council Member James Presutti is the new commissioner of Parks, Recreation and Conservation for the Town of Newburgh. The appointment was made at a recent town board meeting.

The Town Board advertised for the position of Commissioner of Parks, Recreation, and Conservation, and interviewed five applicants on April 6, 2020. Presutti was cited by town officials as the only one with outstanding qualifications and experience.

Presutti is an ISA Certified Arborist and Certified Nursery and Landscape professional who has worked in horticultural and nursery services for almost four decades. He was inducted into the New York State Landscape Nursery Association (NYSNLA) Hall of Fame in 2018

Presutti designed the Chadwick Lake trail while attending Forestry College; worked for the Recreation Department as a high school senior; and, continued such work after graduating high school. In addition, Jim was a member of the Town’s Recreation Advisory Group for over four years, and also served as Chairman. During this time, a major mission of the advisory group was to re-design Chadwick Lake Park to what it is today and develop recreation programming.

Jim has been a part of the Chadwick Lake Park’s re-design, recreation program development, and trail design.

“The amalgamation of his skills as an arborist and experience as a Recreation Advisory Board Member will enable Jim to excel in his new role,” read a town press release. “His invaluable insight as Town Councilman will be missed; however, the Town Board believes that the Town will benefit from his contributions as Commissioner of Parks, Recreation, and Conservation.”
Presutti replaces Rob Petrillo who retired earlier this year.
