Sacred Heart to host a Mardi Gras Festival

“I believe God is deeply saddened by this,
Just as we are, (regarding the attacks on Sept. 11).
But for years we’ve been telling God to get out of
Our schools, to get out of our government, and
To get out of our lives. And being the gentleman, He is,

I believe He has calmly backed out. How can we expect God
To give us His blessing and His protection if we demand
He leave us alone?”

This quote was spoken by Billy Graham’s daughter, Anne Graham, in an interview by Jane Clayson, on “The Early Show,” answering the question of how God let something like that happen.

The St. Vincent De Paul Society is sponsoring a Mardi Gras Festival on Saturday, Feb. 22, in Gallo Hall at Sacred Heart Parish Center, 24 S. Robinson Avenue in Newburgh. (Entrance via Ann Street). Time is 6:30 to 10 p.m. Price is $40 per person.

Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday, and signifies the last day of feasting before the Lenten fast. The menu is deliciously different, and one that you will remember fondly during the long days of Lent that begin on Ash Wednesday.

Menu includes: Fresh fruit, vegetables and dip, cheeses and artisan crackers, Swedish meatballs, stuffed mushrooms, pumpkin ravioli w/browned butter and sage, Shrimp cocktail, Penne ala vodka, Boneless buttermilk chicken w/maple pecan sauce, Incredible Seafood cakes w/lobster sauce, Eggplant Rollatini, and delectable desserts and refreshments.

Let the merriment and fun begin with feisty music and dancing, splendid masks to keep you guessing “who,” shiny beads so colorful and bright and the more the merrier, door prizes and surprise awards.

Please note: This is an adult party only (21 and over)!
For ticket information, please contact Sacred Heart Rectory at (845) 561-2264. This affair is catered by Loughran’s Irish Pub. All proceeds will benefit, The St. Vincent De Paul Society Baby Resource Center. Thank you for your loving support.

Boys and girls in Miss Liz’s class at Tots-N-Us Nursery School were eagerly focusing on practicing their soccer skills and understanding the rules of this popular sport. They were very attentive and started asking Miss Liz about the many different sports that some of them also played, and this opened up a brand-new discussion.

To add a little bit of art creativity to the sports lesson, Miss Liz suggested that the children make paper hats and decorate them with cut-out symbols of their very favorite sport, baseball, basketball, football, or soccer. This activity was lots of fun, and Soccer was the winner. Of course, each child has his or her favorite team that they cheer for and hope to win. I wonder, if it’s a coincidence, that they love the teams they chose because it’s mom or dad’s best team.

Therefore, they all were happy to enjoy a pretend tail-gate game at a soccer stadium, staged right in their classroom. Adding to the fun was knowing they’d be eating all kinds of delicious snack foods and also favorite healthy foods. Since they learned how much fun it can be watching sports at a tail-gate game, even if they couldn’t be there in person, Miss Liz showed them it is as much fun to enjoy the games on T.V. Now, they are eagerly looking forward to watching the grandest and most magnificent game of all, the Super Bowl Game in February.

May you always have an angel at your side.
