Shots fired Sunday evening

On Sunday, June 14, at approximately 11 p.m., the City of Newburgh received a 911 call and a Shot Spotter notification indicating a shooting had taken place in the area of Benkard Ave and William Street.

Upon officers arrival they located the scene and were able to recover several shell casings. While on scene City of Newburgh dispatch received a call indicating that a male had arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound.

Officer arrived at the hospital and met with City of Newburgh resident Christopher Johnson, age 26. Police said. Johnson was uncooperative with police and hospital staff.

This incident is under active investigation and no further information will released at this time. Police are asking anyone with any information about this incident to contact the police department at (845) 561-3131.
