Terry Anderson optimistic for 2019

Terry Anderson is entering his fourth and final season for the Newburgh Free Academy’s boys’ lacrosse team, and the senior is hoping for a better campaign following four wins last season.

“I expect us to have a good year,” he said. “It’s better than one win. Four wins, take it or leave it. I’ll take it. It’s better than nothing.”

Anderson is a midfielder and attacker, and the Goldbacks will try and build off of last season.

Anderson helped the Goldbacks win another Section 9, Class AA title playing offense and defense, but he was hobbled at times by leg injuries as the Goldbacks tried to remain the dominant sectional AA squad.

His winter off was for football, which he is hoping to play at Buffalo State next year in the defensive secondary and on special teams. He did spend his recent winter months playing indoor lacrosse and improving mobility to play the game this spring and hopefully football in the fall.

“I have been doing a lot of indoor lacrosse. I have been vertically, laterally, all over,” he said. “The knee is alright.”

On the football field, Anderson was always a threat to break a big play on offense or stop one in the defensive secondary. Soon on Academy Field’s turf and on the road, Anderson will again have plenty of range to use his speed and ability to make a difference for the Goldbacks playing lacrosse.

“Lacrosse is like soccer,” he said. “You just keep running.”
