Town engineer to retire

During the most recent town board workshop meeting, it was announced Town of Newburgh Engineer James Osborne would retire.

His retirement will be effective on July 17, as approved by the town board. He has been serving in this capacity since 1992.

Osborne will take on a part-time role serving as a consultant to his successor.

“[I will be working] on a very limited basis to help whoever the town hires to replace me, to get them up to speed with the town infrastructure,” he said in a phone interview.

Osborne made the decision for personal reasons, and looks forward to spending time with his family.

He was hired originally to help the town build a filter plant on the Delaware Aqueduct. After a leak emerged, the project was put on hold until 2013.

“I guess that brought me full circle,” he said.

Still, Osborne values the smaller projects he has taken on in addition to the larger projects such as the Delaware Aqueduct filtration.

“I’m probably as proud of some very small projects that we’ve done that have helped neighborhoods with traffic flow,” he said. “We’ve made roadway improvements and intersection improvements to make traffic flow safer.”

Osborne was approved by the town board to start in his new role starting July 27.
