Hello New Windsor. The Coronavirus has shaken the fabric of our society beyond our worst nightmares and many people’s lives have changed and will continue to change as businesses have to close down meaning jobs being lost.

We as a society need to step up and do what we can to help one and another especially those that need the most assistance, like older adults, people with health problems, people with disabilities, or others in dire need. We also have to remember to think of the workers who are on the front lines of this crisis in the healthcare industry, our emergency responders, and those who work in our supermarkets, and other essential businesses that have to work harder than ever with this ongoing crisis.

I have read and heard about many accounts of people fighting in supermarkets over packages of toilet paper and cases of water. Customers are panic buying groceries and supplies loading up on them because of the fear that they will not be able to get food or other items for a long period of time. A crisis surely can bring out the worst in people as supermarket employees from around the world are witnessing on a daily basis, but they can also bring out the best in human kind as well. So, we all have to choose how we react to this crisis, do we fight others over toilet paper or do we help each other? We need to come together and help where we can. Everyone needs to stay calm, listen to our leaders, follow the recommendations of the healthcare professionals and we will get through this and get our lives back.

For those of us who are not on the front lines and will be either working from home or home out of work we need to make the most of our extra time at home by spending time with our kids whose lives have also have been drastically altered with the closing of the schools, and the canceling of all extracurricular activities and sports. We need to take this extra time with our kids and to get creative of how we can do things as families at home being we don’t have all of those extra things that consume so much of our lives on a daily basis. We need to make sure that we don’t allow our fear of what is going on with this crisis affect our children. We have to keep them from the constant worry of what is going on.

May God bless and watch over you all.
