Welcome to the golden season of the year

The October 7 feast of Our Lady of Victory, today celebrated as Our Lady of the Rosary, is a testament to the power of this devotion.  The feast dates back to the 16th century with one of the most important naval events in European history.  In this perilous Battle of Lepanto, Pope Pius V turned for protection to the Blessed Mother and asked the faithful to do the same.  By praying the Rosary for Our Lady’s intercession, the Ottoman fleet was defeated and Christianity in Europe was defended.
Please join the 2020 Public Square Rosary Crusade sponsored by the Catholic War Veterans Joseph R. Farina Memorial Post 386.  Please consider joining in praying for our nation, on Saturday, October 10, at exactly noon.  The local Public Square Rosary Rally will take place at Sacred Heart Church Front Sidewalk or inside (Chapel) if inclement weather.

Welcome to the golden month of our year, when bright blue skies herald October with its pleasant breezes and a subtle crispness in the air, and the trees are fashioning their leaves to compete in showy shades of red, yellow, and orange.  Homes are now embellished with autumn’s harvest of corn shocks, gourds, bright orange pumpkins of all sizes, and gorgeous potted yellow chrysanthemums.

This is the season for pulling fuzzy sweaters from the back of our closets, selecting root vegetables for healthy, hearty soups and stews, and a time for choosing books to read, as nightfall comes earlier and evenings grow longer.
To not only warm up your home, as we retreat indoors to escape the chillier temperatures of autumn, why not warm up your heart, too, by adding the aroma of freshly baked breads in the kitchen.  Add the seasonal fruits that are bountiful in the Farm Markets, and many of them have recipes for delicious breads, muffins, and scones.  Brew a pot of tea and settle in a favorite chair and savor the flavors of autumn.  After all, this is the cozy and comforting season!
May you always have an angel at your side.
