American Legion to host chili cookoff

Marlboro American Legion Post 124 is having a Chili Cook-Off for a great cause, on Saturday, March 9 from 12 -3 p.m

Show off your cooking skills. Cornbread and all the fixings supplied! All entries welcome.

An entry fee of $10 a person ($5 for 12 and under) lets you taste them all.

Prizes will be given for the Best, Spiciest and Most Unique!

The First Presbyterian Church pancake breakfast for Kirky’s Deli was a great success! Paul Quinby would like to thank the community for the donations and participation.

Due to conflicting schedules the March 24 Gomez Mill House Presentation before the Marlborough Historical Society will be postponed until April 28. We apologize for this unavoidable situation.
On April 28 the presentation will be on the “Gomez Mill House”. The presentation will be done be the Site Manager Richard Rosecrans and Director Carol F Cook. They will speak about the 300-year history.

Poetry Reader’s Club continues at The Marlboro Library
Wish you could join book club, but just don’t have the time to read a long novel? Or maybe you’d just like to read more poems? Join Poetry Club! Attendees will have a whole month to read a selected poem before meeting to share their thoughts and/or ask questions. Poetry club will meet the second Wednesday of the month in March and April.
The next meeting will be Wednesday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. We will discuss: “The Hermit Crab” by Mary Oliver and “The Shooting of Dan McGrew” by Robert W. Service. Copies of these poems may be picked up at the library’s circulation desk. Bring your suggestions for future selections! RSVP online at marlborolibrary.org, walk-ins welcome.

“Pi Day” contest at The Marlboro Library
Calling all pie makers! The library will be celebrating “Pi Day, or “π Day” (March 14) with our second annual pie making contest! Sign up to enter the contest in person at the library, then drop off your pie by 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14. The winner receives bragging rights for having baked the best pie in Marlborough, and a gift certificate to a local business! The runner up and third place will also receive prizes.
Pies will be judged by a group of three mystery judges. All contestants must turn in a completed entry form, available at the circulation desk. The winner will be announced in an award presentation ceremony, March 14 at 7 p.m., where the leftover pie will be available for tasting (while the pie lasts! First come first serve!) Bring your friends and family, enjoy delicious pie and a festive, picnic atmosphere. The snow date will be Friday, March 15. Ready, set, bake!

March 9 is National Meatball Day Here is a Recipe from Ol ‘Blue Eyes

Frank Sinatra’s  Meatball Recipe
1/2 pound of ground beef.
1/2 of a pound ground pork.
1 cup of Italian bread crumbs.
1/2 of a cup parmesan/Romano
Italian cheese blend.
1 teaspoon of chopped parsley.
1 clove of garlic minced.
kosher salt to own taste.
freshly ground pepper to own taste.

Shape into balls of desired size (not too large), flattening slightly. Fry on both sides in olive oil over medium flame.

Knights of Columbus Scholarship
The Knights of Columbus-Father Hanley Council #7266 is an awarding $1000 college scholarship to a graduating senior attending a public or private high school. To be eligible, an applicant must be a member of Saint Mary’s Parish and attend Saint Mary’s Church in Marlboro or Our Lady of Mercy Chapel in Roseton.

Interested individuals can obtain additional information and an application by contacting their high school guidance counselor, e-mailing Raymond Leduc, Sr at rleducsr43@gmail.com or calling him at 236-7624 or 206-8355.

The completed application must be postmarked by Friday, April 5, 2019 and mailed to: Attention: Scholarship Committee, Knights of Columbus, Father Hanley Council, P.O. Box 585, Marlboro, NY 12542.

Wednesday, March 6 Ash Wednesday Distribution of Ashes at St. Mary’s is 9 a.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

First Communion Breakfast will be held on Saturday, April 6 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall. We urge parents and family members to join us as we gather to share a meal with the Lord. Please call the Religious Ed Office.

Marlboro/Milton Seniors Trip
The first Marlboro/Milton Seniors trip will be on Wednesday, March 27. Listen to the 50-60s Music of the Jersey Dreamers as they present Joe Zisa and Friends at the Stony Hill Inn in Hackensack, NY. One Complimentary drink and a Family Style Luncheon will be served. Transportation, ticket and gratuities are included. Price $52.00.
