No joke! On April 1 Anthony Musso, one of the Town of Lloyd Historical Preservation (TOLHPS) most popular speakers, will be back in Highland to present his fifth program for TOLHPS. His presentation will be based upon his newest book, “Hidden Treasures of the Hudson Valley,” Vol. 3. The program will be held in the Vineyard Commons Theater in Highland at 7 p.m.

Originally planned for December of last year, this presentation had to be rescheduled for April. Musso’s many fans can now expect to be both informed and entertained once again.

In previous programs, Musso covered “treasurers” that ranged from an 1820’s building where the American circus was established to a late 1800’s estate that became home to Timothy Leary’s LSD parties in the mid-20th century. He has also held TOLHPS audiences spellbound with presentations on his two volumes of Setting the Record Straight, about rock and roll stars of the 1950’s and 60’s.

Based on Musso’s newest book, the April program could include gems like a 37-foot-tall statue of the Buddha, the castle home of a famous hotel manager, or a 10-foot-wide by 3-story-high house built during the great depression. No hidden Hudson Valley jewel is too small or too large to attract treasure-hunter Musso.

Musso has resided in the Hudson Valley since 1986. He worked for the Postal Service for 38 years, serving as a media spokesman and editor. He has also been a freelance correspondent for the Times Herald-Record in Middletown and has written a weekly column for Gannett Newspapers. Besides writing his books on hidden treasures and recording artists, Musso has authored other history books, including “FDR and the Post Office” and “Staatsburg: A Village Lost in Time.”

TOLHPS sponsors free monthly public programs from September to June, usually on the first Monday of the month. Vineyard Commons is at 300 Vineyard Avenue, about a mile and a quarter from the Hamlet of Highland on Route 44/55, just south of the Hudson Valley Rehabilitation Center. To reach the theater, turn into Vineyard Commons and follow the signs to Building 6. At the request of Vineyard Commons management, audience members are asked to park their cars in the lot at the far right (west) end of the row of buildings that includes Building 6.
