A number of years ago artist and teacher Elina Cordani purchased a former pub on Western Avenue in Milton and transformed it into a beautiful gallery, renaming it Art From The Heart.
Because of the pandemic, she has not been able to host artistic or musical events inside her gallery. But last Thursday evening she invited singer Angela Bruno to perform outside, in a lot beside her gallery. That evening Angela sang selections from the American Songbook before a very appreciative audience, all practicing social distancing.
Angela first got to know Elina after receiving a call requesting her to sing authentic Italian songs at the center.
“She hired me three or four times inside and now I feel this is a wonderful idea outside,” she said. “Hopefully this is going to give other musicians, singers, comedians an opportunity. People are so sad and depressed, even entertainers, that this lifts us. We need to have that because it’s part of us and they need some kind of a community, so this was a great idea to host this event.”
Angela also sings jazz, blues, opera and even Spanish songs.
“If I like it I mix it in. If it’s a good song, it’s a good song no matter what,” she said.
Cordani said far too much time had passed since she hosted an event at the gallery, so she paved her parking lot, created a stage area and invited Angela to sing. The concert was free to the public.
“I was so excited about tonight and these people came and made this a reality,” Cordani said.
Cordani would like to schedule regular outside concerts bedside her gallery.
“I’m working hard to find other people and perhaps have an open mic night,” she said. “People that I don’t know may call me and say they want to perform here.”
