Church offers help for those without jobs

Posted

During this unprecedented time, many of our community members have been let go from their jobs. The demand for aid is only going to increase.
There will be a Livestream Concert, GoFundMe, and Food & Supply Drive at the First Presbyterian Church of Milton NY on Sunday, March 29 from 12 - 5 p.m. If you know any musicians or bands that would like to perform for this cause, please contact Matt Pidel through private message on his Facebook page.
People will be able to drop off supply donations in the driveway of the church, located at 31 Church Street in Milton, during this time to limit contact. The supplies will be delivered to anyone in the town in need. Please private message me if you know someone or a family that we should drop some supplies off for. If you would like to volunteer to help drop off supplies on peoples’ porches as to limit contact.
Please contact Matt Pidel by private message through his Facebook page for information.
There will also be a GoFundMe being promoted starting today through the end of the drive

The GoFundMe page is Milton Cares - COVID Aid for Families for those who wish to donate. All donations will be used to purchase supplies which will be delivered to families in need in our town.

American Goulash Recipe
Author Jessica Randhawa
Ingredients

• 1 tbsp olive oil
• 1 medium yellow onion - minced
• 1 green bell pepper - seeded and diced
• 8 cloves garlic - minced
• 2 tsp salt
• 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
• 1 tbsp paprika - (optional)
• 2 pounds ground beef
• 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
• 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce - (or soy sauce)
• 2 tbsp tomato paste
• 2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce
• 2 (15 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
• 2 bay leaves
• 2 cups beef broth - (or water)
• 2 cups elbow macaroni - uncooked
• 2 cups cheddar cheese - shredded

Instructions
1. Heat olive oil in a large stock pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the onions and sauté for 5-6 minutes, or until starting to soften and turn translucent. Add the bell pepper and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring often. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.
2. Reduce heat to medium and add the salt, pepper, and paprika to the mirepoix. Mix well.

3. Add the ground beef to the pot. Use a wooden spatula to break apart the ground meat into smaller pieces. Stir frequently and continue to cook until meat is browned.
4. Add the Italian seasoning, Worcestershire sauce, and tomato paste. Mix well to combine. Stir in the tomato sauce and diced tomatoes and bring to a simmer. Add the bay leaves, cover, and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
5. Stir in the broth and elbow macaroni, cover, and simmer for approximately 15 minutes, or until noodles are cooked to al dente. Stir every couple of minutes to prevent the noodles from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
6. Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheese. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley, if desired. Enjoy!

Notes
• If you don’t have any macaroni on hand, any other small pasta shape will work including ditalini, orzo, and orecchiette.
• For a leaner goulash, trade the ground beef for ground turkey.
• While it would stray from traditional versions, feel free to add more vegetables such as carrot, celery, onion, and bell pepper.
• Keep it dairy-free by skipping the added cheese.
• Add more or less liquid to make it the exact consistency you want!
• The paprika is traditional to Goulash but less traditional to American Goulash. You may include it or leave it out.
