The Highland Central School District Music Department held their annual choral scholarship concert, something they have been doing for the past 60 years. The money raised will go to a graduating senior who is pursuing music in college.

The concert included singers in the Chorus and Chamber and Concert Choirs, from 4th through the 12th grades. Teacher Jodie McCaffery directed the 4th and 5th grades and the Select Chorus, beginning with ‘Castle On A Cloud’ by Schoenberg & Kretzmer; ‘Better When I’m Dancing’ by Trainor & Dixon, the movie classic, ‘Over the Rainbow’ by Arlen & Harburg and the Georgia Sea Island folk song, ‘The Sun Is A Risin In My Soul’.

The Select Chorus sang ‘Yonder Come Day’ and also performed their interpretation of singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect, which McCaffery called one of her favorite pop songs.

Music teacher Jeff DiMaio directed the 6th through 8th grade choruses, starting with the 6th grade singing ‘Cardinal’ by Andy Beck and ‘Fly Like and Eagle’ by Steve Miller. The 7th and 8th grade took on ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’ by Timberlake, Martin and Shellnack and finished with ‘We’re All In This Together’ by Gerrard and Nevil.

Lynda Keech directed the High School Chamber and Concert Choirs, opening with the Chamber Choir performing the jazz tinged ‘He Beeped When He Shoulda Bopped’ by trumpeter/composer Dizzy Gillespie.

The High School Concert Choir closed out the evening with ‘Come Travel With Me’ by Scott Farthing; ‘For the Beauty of the Earth’ by Pierpont/Gilpin and the finale, ‘Waitin’ For The Light To Shine’ from the Broadway musical ‘Big River’ by Roger Miller.
