It seems like some letter writers recently wrote that Satan rose from the nether regions and took up residence in the executive mansion in Albany, New York.  He is described as some kind of smarmy, self-centered, authoritarian  (One writer called him “King” several times), and attention-seeking boob.  Well.  Let’s look at the facts, not the off-base opinions. 

Yes, he did make a terrible mistake early on by sending patients back into nursing homes to infect and kill other patients.  He was, however, following the directions of an individual who self-admittedly knew the virus was easily transmitted and deadly but treated the situation so lightly that he publicly predicted it would soon go away and not infect many and those infected would not get very sick. 

When the Albany person realized how bad a mistake he had made he immediately clamped down on us citizens and prevented many sicknesses and deaths.  I’m wondering if the description tacked onto him may more appropriately be fastened to a certain individual living in an Executive Mansion some miles south of us. 

The caution that the Albany individual took when distribution of the vaccine started was shared by several other governors.  It was an action to make sure that the people for whom they are responsible are not endangered.  Up to this time distribution of the vaccine has been a disaster --  and that is not their fault.  And the public participation at the site of the first New York vaccination was not a publicity stunt.  It was an attempt to get those fearing the vaccine to rise above their fears and get their own vaccination. 

Now, the supposed negative difference between the tightly controlled New York behaviors and the lax ones in Florida where the latter shows a lower infection rate is most troubling -- until you look at what’s REALLY happening in Florida.  The governor of that state has deliberately suppressed the count!*  Just do a search on the words “Florida suppresses covid count”  and you will be amazed at what emerges. 

Perhaps “His Satanic Majesty” (Apologies to the Rolling Stones) was unaccustomed to the cold of Albany and more used to the warmth of Tallahasee Florida.  A word to the wise:  Know your facts before you presume to attack.
