George Nicholas Lewick took fashion cues from no one. In his thirties, he could be recognized by a white tee shirt and a pack of Marlboro’s in the chest pocket, cut off jean shorts, black socks pulled all the way up, and well used moccasins. In his seventies, it was a tee shirt (thankfully - the smokes were gone), partially covered up by an open flannel shirt, sweat pants, and still the moccasins.
George passed away peacefully on New Year’s Day at 4:23 am at Mid Hudson Regional Hospital of natural causes.
George was born in Toronto, Canada on March 5, 1942. He had three sisters ( Barbara, Mary, and Virginia) and a brother (William). George’s birth made the newspaper because his two older sisters shared the same birth date. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary, his sons Christopher and his wife Joanna of Pawling NY and Chad and his wife Anjani of Poughquag NY , four grandchildren, Devin, Rina, Abbie and Keegan and his siblings. He was predeceased by his sister Mary.
He worked at IBM in Poughkeepsie for over thirty years. After retiring he started a small repair business, followed by a job where he repaired bank machines. He was very talented at fixing pretty much anything and shared that knowledge with his sons and grandchildren.
He loved spending time with his family. First with his wife and sons, and later in his life with his daughters-in-law and four grandchildren. He loved watching TV and movies. When he found something he liked, he could watch it many times. His wife will attest, she’s seen the show 24, literally 24 times. He loved traveling with his family. His favorite vacation was a four week cross country trip but he also loved cruising.
His last day that he was truly himself was Christmas 2020 where he was surrounded by his family. After a week of sleep, he died with his son Christopher holding his hand. Due to Covid, there will not be viewing hours or a funeral. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to MidHudson Regional’s ICU where George received exceptional care.
