Highland students host event in honor of Día de Muertos

On Friday, Nov. 1, students in Highland High School Spanish classes showcased their knowledge of the “Day of the Dead.” Day of the Dead is a two-day celebration where it is believed that the passageway between the real world and the spirit world is open so our deceased loved ones can come back to visit.

For the Highland event, Spanish II and III students created colorful posters explaining the meaning behind Día de Muertos. Spanish IV and V students prepared an assortment of delicious food. The Spanish Honor Society students created the ofrendas, or offering table, which included photos of loved ones lost and some of their favorite things, the loved one’s favorite food and drink, and bright yellow flowers.
