Husband and wife due at HV folk guild

Posted

The Rock Tavern Chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Rock Tavern, will be featuring Catherine Miles and Jay Mafale on January 11.

Illustrated with everyday details that are almost tangible, they are at once personal yet universal. Catherine’s expressive voice is at times a powerhouse, at times warm and familiar. Jay’s guitar is alternately percussive and melodic, propelling the narrative.

Miles & Mafale know a little something about letting in light, especially during dark times. Experience has taught them about perseverance and perspective. Those lessons provide the sturdy foundation on which they craft songs that enlighten and entertain, with hope always at their core. These “slice-of-life” songs have earned them recognition as three-time Kerrville New Folk Finalists, Most Wanted Artists in Falcon Ridge Folk Festival’s Emerging Artist Competition, by the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest, and in the South Florida Folk Festival Singer-Songwriter Competition.

Known to audiences as two-thirds of The YaYas and half of No Fuss and Feathers, Catherine and Jay spent the last few years focusing their efforts on touring with No Fuss and Feathers in support of the group’s album, Traveling Circus (#22 Top Album of 2016 on Folk DJ and named one of the Best Albums of 2016 by WFMT’s Rich Warren).

These days, the husband and wife team find themselves turning their unaffected style toward more socio-political themes.

Open mic performances will be available to all. Cost of admission for this event is $6 ($5 for Folk Guild members and seniors). Signup begins at 7 and open mic begins at 7:30.

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Rock Tavern is located in the Town of New Windsor at 9 Vance Road, Rock Tavernoff Route 207, 3.4 miles west of Rte 300.
