After winning four straight section titles, Class B, 2015-2016, and Class C, 2017-2018, Highland boys’ lacrosse team, with players from Marlboro, moves back to a very competitive Class B this season.

“Our schedule is incredibly difficult this year, and we will face many challenges along the way. Class B is comprised of Cornwall, FDR, Minisink Valley, Valley Central, Warwick and us,” said Tom Schlappich, Highland’s coach. “We have had our share of battles with many of those teams in the past, so I expect this year to be similar. Our non-league opponents are going to be extremely challenging as well.”

Chris Hammond, a senior, returns to play attack with fellow seniors Roger Hegeman and Danny Rusk. Seniors Michael Caso and Christian Canino will play midfield with Ethan Esposito. Jack Young, a senior committed to play at Siena, will be the long-stick midfielder.

Logan Zehr will be the face-off guy and Will Minard, Ben Hammond, and Nick Frederick will play defense. Lenny Casabura will be the goalie.

“We have a lot of boys returning this season with a good amount of experience, coupled with an influx of a few talented younger players from our youth program,” said Schlappich. “Every day we are working hard to improve, both individually and as a team. This is a fantastic bunch of kids. While the schedule we play is incredibly challenging, I believe we will be just fine.”
